Taneycomo Lake Fishing Report
January 12th
Winter trout fishing is great on lake Taneycomo. We had a trip yesterday and boated 73 fish in 4 hours of fishing with 2 anglers! We have been catching fish on various lures, jigs and flies depending on how they are running the water and whether we are fly or spin fishing.
Some of the bigger fish have moved from the trophy area down river from Lilly's Landing to Scotty trout dock and are being caught on power bait and gulp.

Trout fishing is great as usual. The water is back to normal level after the low water period while they were working on the Power site dam. While the water was low they added boulders at the trophy area below Table Rock Lake dam. It took only a week or so to get the trout to relate to them. Ware catching fish off them pretty good now. Best baits are egg patterns, tan and gray scuds size 16 and 18 jigs and jerk baits.
Catching some nice fish With a 24 and a 25 inch rainbow this week!

They are lowering the water at Lake Taneycomo to work on powersite dam. The water droped 2 foot today, this is the lowest I have seen the lake. The trout were chomping today! Both a midge and scud bite, no big fish maby 17" was the biggest but lots of fish and fun!

Finally got a day off to catch up on updating site and reports. The trout fishing is on fire on Lake Taneycomo! I had a client Dan Jolly catch a 24" rainbow with me yesterday! They are getting into a patern of having the water off till 3:00 then running 3 to 4 uniys till 10 or 11 at night (subject to change as usual)
While the water is off the midge bite hs been really good 16 to 20 in browns, tan, red have been good colors. And with the water running Lilleys Landing Sculpin jigs, eggs, scuds and wooly bugger paterns are hot!
Come fishing with me at fishing guide branson and I can guarantee you a great trip with lots of action!

Trout fishing is really good! We are catching 25 to 75 fish every 4 hour trip! And we only average 1 fish out of every 4 or 5 bites! Steady action!! Best baits depend on the water release rates and clients preference to fly fish or spin fish, the biggest fish have been coming by casting a minnow style bait, like jerk baits, crank baits or by hopping a Lilly's Landing jig in either white, brown or sculpin colors . We are catching numbers of fish on a egg and scud combo with the occasional nice one.
Below fall creek gulp eggs in white orange and yellows are working with floated night crawlers starting to be the top producer. Use a drift rig or Carolina rig with just enough weight to bump the bottom.June 26
The trout fishing on lake Taneycomo is good! They have been shutting the water off at midnight and turning it on between 7:00 and 10:00AM. While the water is off there has been a good Midge hatch and the fish are biting midge patterns, eggs and scuds. We have also been catching them on jerk baits and smaller jigs on spinning rods.
With the water running we have been either drifting with different types of crank baits, jerk baits and egg patterns with a scud or woolly burger trailer on a spinning outfit. Or the egg scud, egg San Juan worm or jig on the fly rod.
Fishing guide Branson will put you on the fish Guaranteed!

The Lake Taneycomo Trout are really biting good! They are finally getting in a pattern of turning off the generation for the first half of the day. This is a refreshing change from the constant flow and high water we have dealt with all spring!
We caught some nice rainbows yesterday morning stripping #10 sculpin woolly bugger’s and #14 crackle backs. Most of the fish were from 12 to 15” a handful of them were bigger with the largest being a fat 20” rainbow that tested the client #1’s 5x tippet and the skills of the first time fly fisherman!
As the morning transformed and the fog cleared from the rising sun, the midge hatch ramped up I switched client #2 to a #18 rusty midge and he started racking up the numbers on his buddy pretty quick!
About the time I switched client #1 to the midge they blew the horn to signal the release of water. As the water flow increased the midge bite slowed as the fish started moving to the bottom, current breaks and eddys with the increased flow from Table Rock Lake Dam. We continued to catch the rainbows after switching to #16 scuds trailed from a weighted attractor fly.
Overall an awesome but normal morning fishing in Branson. The two first time fly fishermen caught and released over 50 fish, and missed or broke off (bass fisherman hook set mentality is hard to break in 4 hours) 4 times as many fish as they boated, which is normal for Taneycomo Lake, Trout Fishing.
